Sky Sports studio in stitches at Alexander-Arnold and Everton transfer claim

Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold has confirmed that he is leaving Anfield at the end of the season.

The England international has played a key role in ensuring that the Reds have won their second Premier League title in five years in Arne Slot’s first season in charge.

But on Monday (5 May), he took to social media to reveal that he is leaving Liverpool this summer, sparking a furious reaction from supporters.

Academy graduate Alexander-Arnold has provided the Anfield faithful with plenty of special memories over the years, but now looks set to join Real Madrid.

Sky Sports pundit jokes about Alexander-Arnold joining Everton

Rob Wotton pointed out on Sky Sports News (5 May, 10:10am) that there was no Real Madrid mention in Alexander-Arnold’s leaving statement, despite the speculation linking the 26-year-old to the La Liga giants.

Jay Bothroyd then joked: “Well, he’s not going to Everton.”

That led to much laughter from the studio, including former Everton Women’s player Sue Smith.

Alexander-Arnold has displayed his attacking class once again this term, notching three goals and six assists in 31 Premier League appearances.

Liverpool have a ready-made Alexander-Arnold replacement

Alexander-Arnold’s Liverpool exit will no doubt hurt the freshly crowned Premier League champions, not least because he is departing Merseyside on a free transfer.

Alexander-Arnold has enjoyed another stellar campaign

The 26-year-old has established himself as one of the best full-backs in the world, who boasts an incredible passing range which the Reds will be gutted to part company with.

However, Slot’s men may not have to delve into the transfer market to replace Alexander-Arnold’s incredible services, thanks to the presence of fellow academy graduate Conor Bradley.

Bradley burst onto the scene last season, when he scored one goal and created three assists in his first 11 Premier League appearances.

He has made a further 25 outings across all competitions this term, and has featured in three of Liverpool’s last three fixtures, and was named in Slot’s starting 11 for recent wins over Leicester and West Ham.

Bradley could be ready to take the baton from his legendary predecessor, Alexander-Arnold, and will look to help the Reds win more silverware next term.
