Liverpool fans mock Plymouth after Championship announcement – ‘Hold that’

Liverpool have finally had their revenge on Plymouth Argyle.

The Pilgrims knocked Arne Slot‘s side out of the FA Cup with a 1-0 win in the fourth-round clash at Home Park on 9 February.

The Reds went onto to lift the Premier League title while the South Coast side struggled against relegation in the second tier.

Plymouth announce fate after Championship scenes

Plymouth were on a high after defeating the Anfield outfit and would go on to be eliminated Manchester City in the fifth round.

However, their league campaign did not bring a similar level of success and they finished second-bottom of the division after a last-gasp 2-1 defeat against Leeds United.

The Reds and Pilgrims had contrasting seasons.

Confirming their relegation to League One on social media, the club took to X, saying: “We fought until the end, but our relegation to Sky Bet League One is officially confirmed.

“Thank you for your incredible support this season. We will be back stronger.”

Liverpool fans mock Plymouth as relegation confirmed

Many Reds supporters took the loss well at the time, as it allowed Slot’s side to focus on their league title ambitions.

However, some have brutally mocked the Devon-based outfit in the replies to the post after they were demoted to the third tier.

It is unlikely that the L4 outfit will meet their conquerors anytime soon, given the two division gap between the sides, so they will have the bragging rights for now.

Slot and his side need to build on their success in the league and go for the cups as well in the future, especially the Champions League to further enhance his legacy on Merseyside after replacing Jurgen Klopp.

The Plymouth result could be banished as a small footnote in history if the Dutchman goes on to win everything with the 20-time champions.

To do so, he needs significant backing from Fenway Sports Group in the transfer market so that the likes of Arsenal and Manchester City cannot catch up domestically.

If he gets multiple signings in the summer, there is no telling how far he can take the Reds and it will be a very exciting campaign next time around with an even stronger squad.

The same cannot be said for Miron Muslic’s side as they face a major battle to regain their second-tier status.
