Rio Ferdinand slammed as Man United legend makes ‘bitter’ Liverpool admission

Liverpool supporters have torn into Rio Ferdinand after the Manchester United legend’s latest admission.

Arne Slot’s side will play their first match since being crowned Premier League champions when they take on Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday (4 May).

Despite the wave of momentum the Reds will likely be riding as they travel to London, Chelsea are expected to come out on top in the latest Premier League encounter between two of England’s great clubs.

Slot is expected to make two Liverpool changes against Enzo Maresca’s side. However, all the talk ahead of the match has been about what will take place before kick-off at Stamford Bridge.

Ferdinand and Peter Crouch against the guard of honour

As is tradition, Maresca has confirmed that Chelsea will give Liverpool a guard of honour ahead of the meeting between the two clubs.

However, while speaking live on TNT Sports (3 May), Ferdinand and Crouch explained that they are not fans of this tradition. Crouch explained that he finds the guard of honour embarrassing for both teams, with Ferdinand in agreement about the awkwardness of the tradition.

However, Liverpool supporters believe that the guard of honour is only now a problem because it is the Reds who are set to receive one, describing Ferdinand as bitter.

Ferdinand needs to get over himself

It is hard to remember a time when there were this many discussions around the guard of honour.

For years, it has been a tradition in the Premier League which hasn’t been questioned. Therefore, it does seem strange that suddenly, pundits and managers are being asked about it, and Liverpool fans have every right to question this.

If Ferdinand had such an issue with the tradition, why did he not speak out during his playing career?

It does seem as though the former defender is only uncomfortable now that United’s greatest rivals Liverpool are set to receive a guard of honour, and it wold be interesting to see if Ferdinand would still have the same opinion if it were Ruben Amorim’s side that had won the Premier League.
