Cody Gakpo sends Leeds United message after Championship title win
Liverpool do not play until Sunday, but Cody Gakpo has still been keeping up with English football.
The Reds are set to receive a guard of honour from Chelsea at Stamford Bridge (4 May) after they secured the Premier League title with a 5-1 victory over Tottenham on 27 April.
Leeds United will be joining Gakpo and his teammates in the top-flight next season, and the Dutchman has sent a message to one Whites ace.
The Yorkshire club lifted their title on Saturday, after beating Plymouth 2-1.

Gakpo sends Piroe message after Leeds title victory
Gakpo and Elland Road star Joel Piroe were teammates in the PSV youth system in the Netherlands before they both forged their path in the senior game.
The Leeds man will join his compatriot in the top division for the new campaign and he took to Instagram after his side secured the Championship title on the final day, saying: “We are the champions.”
Gakpo liked the post and commented with a boot and a trophy emoji to congratulate his former teammate, who also won the Golden Boot.
Liverpool and Leeds involved in strange stat
The two sides have a strange connection that goes deeper than two of their players being ex-teammates at youth level or compatriots.
The Whites’ title success means that it is the fourth season in history that they have won the second-tier, when the Anfield outfit have won the top-flight.
The latest victories mean that it is the all-time record for times that a specific club has won the second division title at the same time that another also won the top-tier championship.

The same thing that occurred this season, also happened in the 1963-64, 1989-90 and most recently the 2019-20 season when Jurgen Klopp‘s side brought the title back to Merseyside after a thirty-year drought.
It appears that the sides are each other’s lucky charm after Manor Solomon secured a last-gasp winner to set the new record.
The Merseysiders will hope that their league success is not dependent on Daniel Farke‘s side being in the second tier as Arne Slot seeks to continue his dominance of the English game after a tremendous debut campaign.
