Chris Sutton mocked over claim about Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson
Liverpool are expected to have several players in the Premier League Team of the Season.
The Reds were crowned as champions after the 5-1 win against Tottenham (27 April) and have been by far the best team in the division.
The likes of Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk are all expected to be in contention for prestigious honours at the end of the season, including the best XI of the campaign.
However, the potential selection of another Anfield star has proved controversial.

Chris Sutton mocked for Alisson claims
Alisson has been in fine form for the Reds this season despite missing ten league matches through injury.
However, Daily Mail journalist Ian Ladyman has claimed that Nottingham Forest star Mats Sels has been the best goalkeeper in the division this season and deserves to win the goalkeeper of the season award.
Sutton disagreed with those claims and highlighted the Reds stopper as the standout contender for a Team of the Season berth and was met with ridicule as a result.
Speaking on the It’s All Kicking Off podcast (1 May), Ladyman mocked the former Celtic striker for his supposed bias, saying: “I assume your back four will be, Alexander-Arnold, Van Dijk, Konate, and Robertson.”

Alisson deserves plaudits despite injury struggles
Alisson is the best goalkeeper in the top-flight, and arguably in world football ahead of likes of Emi Martinez, Thibault Courtois and Marc-Andre ter Stegen.
While he has missed a significant chunk of time through fitness issues, when he has played, he has been a difference maker for Arne Slot’s side.

The stats favour Sels, however, they are skewed because the L4 outfit have a much better defense and therefore face less shots, meaning that there is less for the Brazilian to do.
When he is called upon though, there is nobody that Reds supporters would rather have between the sticks.
Without the Brazil international, there is no doubt that the Merseysiders would not be in the position that they are in, he offers a calm presence and is brilliant when it comes to one-on-ones and has saved them many times this campaign.
The former Internacional star deserves the recognition for his contributions, Sels has been fantastic but Alisson is on another level entirely.
