Chelsea v Liverpool preview: Team news, where to watch, supercomputer prediction

Liverpool travel to Chelsea on Sunday looking to continue their celebrations.

The Reds won the Premier League title with four matches left to spare with a 5-1 victory over Tottenham on 27 April.

The squad joined the Anfield crowd in rapturous celebration after that contest but they will return to business as usual at Stamford Bridge (4 May).

Chelsea v Liverpool preview

Liverpool‘s season is technically over, they have won the league and can relax ready for the new campaign with their feet up.

However, the Reds have won five of their last six league matches and Arne Slot will be keen to keep the momentum flowing ahead of their title defence and achieve the highest points total possible to further enhance his legacy.

Another factor is that Mohamed Salah is just a few goals and assists away from setting multiple Premier League records, so there is little chance that the Merseysiders just roll over and allow their opponents to secure victory.

Meanwhile, the hosts can take a step closer to Champions League football with a win against the Champions, as Nottingham Forest are breathing down their neck for the final qualification spot.

Enzo Maresca’s side have won three of their last six in the league with two draws and a loss to Arsenal (16 March) being the only blemish on a decent recent record.

Team News

The only absentees for Slot’s side are Joe Gomez and Tyler Morton, who are not expected to be ready to return to action.

Conor Bradley missed the win over Ange Postecoglou’s side with a knock and it is unknown whether he will return to the squad.

The Dutchman could make changes given that the title is already wrapped up but he will want to finish the campaign strongly, so he may stick with the majority of the side that started the Spurs clash.

The likes of Harvey Elliott and Federico Chiesa might be given the nod as Slot examines his squad options ahead of the new season.

Meanwhile, the Blues are expected to be without Wesley Fofana and Christopher Nkunku for the clash against the Anfield outfit.

Malo Gusto, Marc Guiu and Robert Sanchez are also doubts for the game and Myhailo Mudryk is unavailable due to his ban for alleged doping offences.

Predicted line-ups

Where to watch

Sunday’s game at Stamford Bridge kicks off at 4:30 pm and has been chosen for broadcast on UK television.

The clash is available to watch via Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League.

Supercomputer Prediction

Chelsea are expected to overcome Liverpool in the contest, with the Opta Supercomputer giving the hosts a 43.2 per cent chance of victory.

Meanwhile, the Reds have been handed a 32 per cent chance of winning the contest, with a draw rated as the least likely probability at 24.9 per cent.

The percentages lie in the Blues’ favour as a result of the fact that Slot’s side have already wrapped up the title and that Maresca is pushing for Champions League qualification but it would be foolish to underestimate the Merseysiders.
