Liverpool fans wowed by what former Everton manager did to Alisson – ‘King’

Liverpool fans are not known to tip their hats to anyone associated with Everton due to their fierce rivalry, but that is not always the case.

The two Merseyside clubs share a fierce rivalry, meaning there is no love lost between them despite their contrasting fortunes in recent years.

Everton fans notably grabbed headlines after sneaking numerous blue flares into Liverpool’s Premier League title celebrations after their 5-1 win against Tottenham at Anfield on Sunday, 27 April.

However, the two teams put their differences aside from time to time, not least in demanding justice for the 97 in the wake of the Hillsborough tragedy.

Carlo Ancelotti shows class with Alisson gesture

A tale about how Carlo Ancelotti disregarded Everton’s rivalry with Liverpool to show his support towards Alisson has now come to light.

The Reds goalkeeper penned an emotional letter on The Players’ Tribune on Tuesday (29 April), lifting the lid on the hurt caused by his father’s sudden passing during the pandemic in 2021.

Alisson was forced to stay in the UK during his father’s funeral due to the lockdown and his wife being in the third trimester of a pregnancy.

The Brazil international found coping with the loss incredibly hard, but was moved by the support from not only everyone at Liverpool, but also from his rivals.

In his letter, Alisson revealed that Pep Guardiola and Ancelotti were among those who sent him a condolence letter.

Liverpool fans in awe of Ancelotti and Guardiola

Ancelotti was in charge of Everton at the time, and it is a reflection on his personality that he decided to show support to a rival during a time of loss.

It is worth noting that the iconic manager had led the Toffees to a 2-0 victory over Liverpool at Anfield just days before Alisson’s father died.

Meanwhile, Guardiola has been largely respectful of his rivalry with Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp, and it must come as no surprise that he also extended his support towards the goalkeeper at the time.

Nevertheless, Liverpool fans have been blown away by the class displayed by both Guardiola and Ancelotti, taking to social media to tip their hats to them.

One fan even described them as ‘kings’.

This goes to show that football goes beyond rivalries on the pitch and trophies, and Guardiola and Ancelotti deserve credit for their gestures.
