Liverpool and Arne Slot ‘done a disservice’ after Premier League title win

Liverpool secured their Premier League title with a 5-1 thrashing of Tottenham on Sunday.

The title has been a long time coming for the Reds, who have been dominant throughout the campaign, not facing stiff competition from elsewhere.

Although there were questions over how Arne Slot would fill the shoes of Jurgen Klopp, the Dutchman has fitted in seamlessly.

Troy Deeney makes valid Liverpool point

Liverpool have won the Premier League title with time to spare, sitting 15 points clear at the top of the table with Arsenal in second place.

However, there have been plenty of conversations questioning how good the Reds have actually been this season, with some suggesting that Arsenal and Manchester City’s struggles have set a clear path for Liverpool.

Slot’s side were well beaten in both the Carabao Cup final and the Champions League, as well as being knocked out of the FA Cup against Championship strugglers Plymouth Argyle.

Therefore, there have been suggestions that the top flight has been weak this season, and the winners of the domestic league are not necessarily as good as the Premier League paints them out to be.

Troy Deeney has rubbished these claims, though, as he said live on talkSPORT (28 April, 6:08am): “I think we’ve done them a huge disservice this season, talking about Man City, Arsenal, Man United, Spurs not being at the level.

“I think they’ve just been consistently great and I think the way that Arne Slot has handled himself and conducted himself throughout the course of the season has been fantastic.”

Slot can prove himself with Liverpool next season

Slot certainly won’t be thinking too much about what those on the outside are saying, given he has just got his hands on the Premier League trophy at the first time of asking.

However, the Dutchman will surely be ready to silence any of the doubters next season by showing his side’s success is not a fluke.

Securing the services of Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk for another campaign is massive for the Merseyside outfit and will no doubt boost their prospects in the summer transfer window too.

Slot will also be keen to add new faces to his outfit as he can learn from the likes of Manchester City, who have failed to add sufficiently over their period of dominance.

The boss will also be looking to achieve success in cup competitions, too, in the hope of expanding the display in the trophy cabinet going forward.

Liverpool have had their doubters this season, but losing just two league games is no mean feat and the Premier League champions will be eager to prove that next season.
