John Obi Mikel confirms Osimhen agreement as Liverpool transfer question answered

John Obi Mikel has confirmed that a deal was agreed for Victor Osimhen with a Premier League side as Liverpool contemplate their next move.

The Reds won the Premier League on Sunday (27 April) by defeating Tottenham Hotspur 4-1 at Anfield, wrapping up an incredible first season for Arne Slot.

It has been an impressive campaign for Liverpool, who have dominated the Premier League from start to finish.

However, they are now already starting to plan for next season, as Slot wants to strengthen his squad to ensure they are able to compete again.

Mikel reveals where Victor Osimhen wants to play

It is believed that attacking changes are what Slot wants to make, particularly when it comes to the striking options he has.

Osimhen is currently seen as one of the world’s best, with the Nigeria international on loan at Galatasaray this season from Serie A side Napoli.

However, given that it is only a loan deal, there are a lot of question marks about where the 26-year-old will play next season, with numerous teams interested in him.

Richard Keys questioned the possibility of Liverpool buying Osimhen on beIN Sports (27 April), but Mikel revealed he has a different Premier League team in mind.

Mikel said: “I know where he wants to play. It’s very clear – Chelsea. He grew up supporting them, and [Didier] Drogba is his idol.”

When asked why a deal with the Blues hasn’t taken place yet, the former Chelsea midfielder provided a surprising response.

He said: “We’ve tried [last summer]. We came to an agreement, both parties agreeing to a salary, but it was down to time – it was too late in the window.”

Liverpool want to cut ties with Darwin Nunez

Whether it is Osimhen or someone else, Liverpool are expected to be in the market for a striker during the summer transfer window.

Darwin Nunez this season

Darwin Nunez is set to depart Anfield after this season, with Slot having not been sold on him as his main attacking option.

While the Reds were able to retain the services of Mohamed Salah for the next two seasons, the Merseyside giants want to secure an out-and-out centre forward who can lead the line.

Alexander Isak is believed to be another target of Slot’s, but convincing Newcastle United to sell the Sweden international will not be an easy transfer to pull off, given his importance to the Magpies.
