Liverpool champions-elect: talkSPORT pundit can’t believe what he keeps hearing
Liverpool need a point against Tottenham on Sunday to clinch the Premier League trophy.
Arne Slot has had an impressive debut season with the Reds, guiding his side to a fairly uncontested title on the first try.
Liverpool go into their game against Spurs sitting 12 points clear of Arsenal in second place, the only side who have been any level of threat towards the Merseyside outfit.

Tony Cascarino taken aback by Liverpool claims
Although there is plenty of celebration of Liverpool’s success on Merseyside, the feeling has not been replicated by everyone this season.
With Manchester City having a serious drop-off from their expected form and Arsenal also struggling at times, it has left Liverpool’s dominance being questioned on a number of occasions.
The Gunners have struggled with injuries in the squad and there have been plenty of suggestions that had they been fully fit throughout the campaign, the season may have played out in a different way.
Ahead of the game where they could be named as Premier League champions, Slot was asked in his pre-match press conference if he felt the campaign was underwhelming.
However, when Tony Cascarino heard the question, he was shocked as he said live on talkSPORT (27 April, 8:09am): “I can’t believe the narrative towards Liverpool. They’re about to win the league and the league’s weak. It’s absolute nonsense.”
Slot has something to prove with Liverpool
There was absolutely no pressure on Slot coming into the campaign, with many wondering how he would step into the big shoes of Jurgen Klopp.
The boss has handled most things well, including letting high-profile contract negotiations at Anfield take a back seat for the majority of the campaign.
The sides below the top spot may not have kept their standards high throughout the season, but that is what separates Liverpool and you can only beat what’s in front of you.
Played | Won | Drawn | Lost |

Any side that loses just two Premier League games in a season is clearly very worthy of their place at the top and that in itself shows a real sign of dominance.
That being said, the boss does have something to prove next season as he and his Liverpool squad prove that this season wasn’t a fluke and they are looking ahead to a period of being at the top.
Slot can use this as motivation for his men, although for the time being, the squad will certainly enjoy getting their hands on the silverware, regardless of what is said about the competition they had to face.
