Liverpool ‘to ditch original summer transfer target’ in favour of £20m star

Liverpool intend to be active in the summer transfer window, regardless of their Premier League success this season.

The Reds could be crowned Premier League champions on Sunday (27 April) against Tottenham Hotspur, which would mark their 20th first division title.

However, Arne Slot is refusing to just rest on that level of success in his debut season, as he’s keen to add further quality to his squad.

There is expected to be a big shakeup at Anfield this summer as Slot aims to put together a squad that has more of his feel.

He has worked very much with the nucleus that was left behind by Jurgen Klopp, making minimal changes to the squad that he inherited.

However, after getting to work with the squad throughout the entire season, Slot has now determined which players he wants to move on, and what areas he has to strengthen.

Liverpool want a new left-back

One area of the squad that Slot does want to strengthen is at left-back, which is a position that has been dominated by Andy Robertson in recent years.

The Scotland international was always Klopp’s first-choice option, but he has found himself on the bench at numerous points this season under Slot.

It is believed that the Liverpool boss is keen to bring in some younger legs, and while Robertson isn’t someone he’s desperate to sell, he does want a new player involved in the squad.

Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez has emerged as an option for Liverpool, as he has been named in multiple reports and is someone fans are keen for them to sign.

However, while everything was pointing toward Kerkez being Anfield-bound, it appears that Liverpool might have had a change of heart.

Liverpool identify a new option at left-back

David Lynch recently spoke to The Redmen TV that there he revealed that Liverpool might not end up trying to sign Kerkez.

Instead, the Reds could push to try and sign Wolves star Rayan Ait-Nouri, who is being seen as an alternative option.

The benefit to him is that he would be significantly cheaper to sign, as he would cost around £20 million in the summer.
