Dean Huijsen to Liverpool: Fabrizio Romano drops major update amid £50m reveal

Liverpool have identified Bournemouth star Dean Huijsen as a key target this summer, but signing him will not be easy.

Arne Slot is keen to add another defender to his ranks, with Liverpool’s depth at centre-back needing reinforcements.

Liverpool are keen on adding Huijsen as a long-term option in the position, with the Spaniard enjoying a strong campaign at Bournemouth.

Virgil van Dijk has signed a new contract to keep him at Liverpool, but Huijsen can play alongside him and occasionally rotate in for the veteran, if the Reds can beat several other clubs to his signature.

Romano reveals Huijsen situation still open

With Huijsen courted by several clubs including Chelsea, securing his signature will not be easy for Liverpool, but his situation is still open.

Ibrahima Konate’s injury record has been hit and miss, and signing a quality third centre-back will be necessary to compete on multiple fronts next season.

Fabrizio Romano has now revealed that no decision has yet been made over Huijsen’s future, with his £50m release clause expected to be activated this summer.

“Dean Huijsen has not decided his next club yet as £50m release clause will surely be triggered,” Romano posted on X.

“Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal still ALL in the race talking to his camp. Bayern keen since January but depends on sales; Real Madrid haven’t decided whether they want new CB or not.”

Liverpool could struggle to convince Huijsen to join

Huijsen has several options available to him this summer, including some of Europe’s biggest clubs, and Liverpool would certainly be an enticing one.

However, the teenager may choose his next club based on where he may get the most gametime next season, which could put Liverpool at a disadvantage.

Huijsen may be a guaranteed starter at Chelsea or even Real Madrid, but given the strength of Liverpool’s centre-backs, it would be a bigger challenge to work his way into the team.

Liverpool would offer Huijsen the chance to compete for major trophies, and he could end up becoming the successor to Van Dijk, but all options are still open for him.
