Arne Slot must not make ‘foolish’ mistake if Liverpool are to remain competitive
Liverpool have enjoyed a successful few weeks in April so far as they close in on the Premier League title.
Arne Slot is just one game from lifting the title in his first season in charge the club after their recent victories.
On top of this, both Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk have signed new contracts, confirming their place in the side next season.
This news has helped quell the fans recent disappointment of the club being knocked out of both the League Cup and Champions League.
However, Liverpool are just one mistake away from undoing all their good work this season.

Liverpool must bring in new faces in the summer transfer window
While Salah and van Dijk’s new contracts are a sign of ambition from the club, it cannot be the only business they do this summer.
Richard Keys has already warned Liverpool about seeing the duo as new signings.
He said on Richard Keys’ Blog (April 22): “And I’d say this to Slot – re-signing van Dijk and Salah is NOT like signing two new players. It’s the right thing to do, but if Liverpool are going to be competitive next season, they’ll need proper new signings. Two certs are Isak and Kerkez, but that won’t be enough either.”
The duo are easily Liverpool’s best players however, they are no longer a long-term solution to attack and defence.
Salah turns 33 years old this summer, while van Dijk is 34 years old in July.
Liverpool players who are over 30 years old | Age |
Mohamed Salah | 32 |
Virgil van Dijk | 33 |
Andy Robertson | 31 |
Alisson | 32 |
Wataru Endo | 32 |
There is no doubt that the pair will be sensational next season, however, a club like Liverpool has to be constantly refreshing its squad to ensure they do not drop off when a star eventually leaves.
To not bring in ready-made replacements for when they do leave would simply be foolish.

Liverpool needs an attacker and two defenders this summer
At a minimum, Liverpool needs three new star players this summer. With Trent Alexander-Arnold likely to join Real Madrid, a right-back is needed.
On top of this, a left-back would be ideal to replace the aging Andy Robertson.
Federico Chiesa is also likely to leave Liverpool after a poor first season in England. This makes it essential that the club brings in one star attacker in the summer.
As it stands, without Salah, the attack looks bleak and reinforcements are needed to ensure the club remains competitive long-term.
Gittens has been linked to Liverpool in recent weeks, and Alexander Isak would be a dream signing.
After all Slot’s achievements this season, the manager deserves to be backed fully in the summer.
