Kevin De Bruyne involved in ‘mischievous’ Liverpool transfer talks

Liverpool have endured an intense rivalry with Manchester City in recent years, with both often vying to win the Premier League title.

Just last season, the Reds found themselves locked into a title race alongside Pep Guardiola’s men as well as Arsenal, which saw City finish on top.

Meanwhile, Liverpool finished agonisingly just one point behind Guardiola’s Premier League winners in both 2019 and 2022.

But the Reds faithful are enjoying their side close in on this season’s title, whereas City sit just fourth in the table and are still vying to secure Champions League football ahead of next campaign.

Kevin De Bruyne has been a key figure for City in recent years, helping Guardiola’s side win each of the last four Premier League titles and get the better of Liverpool.

But the Belgian ace is leaving the Etihad Stadium at the end of the season when his contract expires and is consequently available on a free transfer.

Alex Crook, speaking live on talkSPORT [21 April, 10.13am], shared what he was sent on air, saying: “Tony has been a little bit mischievous on the WhatsApp. He says Kevin De Bruyne to Liverpool.

“His family don’t want to leave their home in Cheshire, he (De Bruyne) is a Liverpool fan along with his family. His granddad turned him into a Liverpool fan, the whole family are Reds. I’m not sure of the substance behind that. That would be a controversial move, wouldn’t it?”

Scott Minto replied: “It’s not going to happen.”

Liverpool have shown great character in recent weeks

Arne Slot’s men have appeared set to win the Premier League title for a long time, and hold an unassailable 13-point lead over Arsenal.

The Reds will be crowned champions on Wednesday if the Gunners fall to a defeat against London rivals Crystal Palace, before Slot’s side host Tottenham on 27 April.

But while Liverpool’s Premier League title remains all but a certainty, the Merseyside giants have shown great character in recent weeks after encountering setbacks.

Slot’s men were knocked out of the Champions League and lost the Carabao Cup final last month, but bounced back with a 1-0 win over local rivals Everton on 2 April.

Liverpool then went on to endure a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Fulham on 6 April, but have gone on to enjoy back-to-back wins over West Ham and Leicester.

The Reds showed plenty of fight against West Ham, as they nicked a last-gasp winner after the Hammers bagged a late equaliser via Andy Robertson’s own goal.

De Bruyne moving to Anfield would be the move of a lifetime, would anyone say no?
