Pep Guardiola makes Liverpool dig after Manchester City beat Everton
Liverpool could get their hands on the Premier League trophy on Sunday.
It has been a perfect debut campaign for Arne Slot, and if the Reds can beat Leicester City and Arsenal lose against Ipswich Town, the title will be clinched.
Even if Sunday doesn’t prove to be the day, it’s a matter of when rather than if for Liverpool as they look to lift their first trophy under Slot.

Pep Guardiola sends Liverpool dig
There was plenty of debate surrounding Slot and how successful he would be in his opening season with Liverpool.
Although the Reds have been dominant, it wasn’t expected to be this easy for the Reds, and some have suggested that other sides’ poor form has allowed Liverpool to get the title.
Manchester City were certainly a side who were expected to be battling at the top of the table, although, compared to their usual standards, they have been way off.
Team | Played | Won | Drawn | Lost |
Liverpool | 32 | 23 | 7 | 2 |
Manchester City | 33 | 17 | 7 | 9 |
Nevertheless, Pep Guardiola wasn’t too shy to make a dig at Liverpool after his side beat Everton 2-0 on Saturday (19 April).
Speaking after the game, the City boss said to the media: “That is a big win. Goodison is tough. Liverpool couldn’t win, Arsenal couldn’t win here.”
Slot has motivation for Liverpool next season
The constant suggestions that Liverpool’s success this season hasn’t entirely been a result of their victories gives Slot something to prove next season.
Guardiola is expected to refresh his Manchester City side in the summer transfer window and he will be looking at Liverpool as the side to beat, putting them in competition again already.
With Liverpool having now convinced Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk to stay put on Merseyside, this puts the Reds in an excellent position going into the summer.
Therefore, if the boss can get the right additions through the door at Anfield in the summer, his squad will be looking fierce going into the 2025/26 campaign.
Guardiola may have been quick to get a dig in about how his side have bettered Liverpool this term but Liverpool won’t be thinking about that when their hands are on the trophy.
Next season is expected to be a more competitive one at the top end of the table, with big money likely to be spent to strengthen squads.
The key now is to go and replicate the success next term and show that Slot is prepared to be one of the best in the Premier League.
