FSG ‘ to waste Liverpool funds on Salah replacement’ after £50m development

Mohamed Salah will continue his story at Liverpool, but Fenway Sports Group (FSG) may be about to make a massive transfer error soon.

The Reds were sweating over the Egypt international’s future for most of the season, with his previous contract expiring in June.

Salah has now penned a new deal at Anfield, keeping him at the Merseyside outfit for potentially two more years, and FSG deserve huge credit for it.

While the Americans will be expected to bolster Arne Slot’s squad in the upcoming transfer window, their priorities could potentially be misguided.

Liverpool secure Salah future after exit speculation

Salah’s future at Anfield in recent months was uncertain, with expectations among some that he’d leave next summer.

It felt like the Reds were approaching the end of an era, with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk also linked with exits.

Nerves in L4 have calmed, though, as Slot will be able to rely on the former Southampton star once again in the upcoming campaign, as he’s also signed a new contract.

The Merseyside outfit will be able to rely on two of their most influential players next season, which will be a significant relief.

Bryan Mbeumo transfer not needed at Anfield

While Salah and Van Dijk’s futures are secured, Alexander-Arnold has been linked with Real Madrid, and it looks like the right-back may be on the move next summer.

The England international has been a significant part of the Reds’ success over the years, and they’ll be disappointed if he does leave.

While Connor Bradley has shown potential at Anfield, his consistent fitness issues will be concerning for fans, and they’ll want FSG to bolster the right-hand side of the defence if Alexander-Arnold were to leave.

Instead, it appears that Liverpool have other plans ahead of the upcoming transfer window, with interest in Brentford winger Bryan Mbeumo emerging, according to CaughtOffside.

The news outlet reports (19 April) that the Bees are expecting offers from the likes of the Reds in the coming months.

Mbeumo’s Premier League record this season.

It’s been claimed that Thomas Frank’s team want around £50million for the 25-year-old Cameroon international.

While Mbeumo may be worth the money, considering his 24 goal contributions in the Premier League this season, the Merseyside outfit should focus on bolstering other areas of the pitch.

Salah’s continuity means Slot doesn’t need a right-winger at the moment, with Federico Chiesa also still at Anfield.

The 25-year-old forward will arguably want to play regular football if he does leave Brentford next summer, but he may not be able to play in his preferred position at the Reds due to Salah.

Instead of wasting £50m on the Cameroonian winger in the upcoming transfer window, FSG should focus on recruiting other players.
