FSG ‘have no excuses’ as Paul Joyce drops £150m Liverpool transfer update

Liverpool have prepared a long shopping list to strengthen Arne Slot’s squad this summer transfer window.

Slot is on course to lead the Reds to Premier League glory in his first season as their manager despite making only one new addition to his ranks last summer.

The Dutchman signed Federico Chiesa from Juventus for a low-risk sum of £10million, while Giorgi Mamardashvili’s £29m move from Valencia was pencilled in for this year.

Unlike last time, Liverpool are in for a big summer this year, with new signings expected in several positions.

Paul Joyce drops Alexander Isak update at Liverpool

Shedding light on Liverpool’s plans for the summer, Paul Joyce has reported that they have a ‘long shopping list’ ready.

Attacker is an area that could be addressed, especially if Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez depart.

Several players, including Hugo Ekitike and Julian Alvarez, have been linked with moves to Anfield, but the admiration for Alexander Isak is genuine, as reported by Joyce on The Times website on Friday, 18 April.

The Reds would be an ‘attractive proposition’ if the Sweden international was to leave Newcastle at the end of the season.

However, there is no indication that the Magpies are prepared to lose Isak this summer, especially since they are on course to seal UEFA Champions League qualification.

Even if Isak was made available for the reported £150m price tag, Liverpool would not go that high for him or any other player, as per Joyce.

FSG must break bank for Isak

FSG’s self-sustenance model has often led to frustration at Liverpool, with this sometimes leading to a lack of transfer activity.

The last time John Henry and Co. pushed the boat out for a signing was when the Reds bought Virgil van Dijk from Southampton for £75million 2018.

Such a fee was almost unheard of for a defender at the time, but the Merseyside-based club have certainly reaped the rewards for it, with the centre-back playing a key role in their success in recent years.

Isak is a player who falls into that category, as the Swede is capable of being Liverpool’s primary source of goals for many years.

This is particularly important for the Reds, as Mohamed Salah is nearing the end of his career.

That is why FSG have no excuses not to break the bank to bring Isak to Anfield this summer.
