Leicester v Liverpool preview: Team news, where to watch, supercomputer prediction

Liverpool return to Premier League action with a trip to Leicester City on Sunday.

After losing to Fulham on 6 April, the Reds bounced back to winning ways with a late 2-1 victory over West Ham last time out.

Virgil van Dijk scored the winning goal in the 89th minute, a nice way to mark the game before he committed his future to Anfield.

The defender has followed in Mohamed Salah’s footsteps, signing a new contract with Arne Slot’s side, giving Liverpool a big boost ahead of the summer.

Preview

Sitting 13 points clear at the top of the Premier League table, the title is Liverpool’s, even if not mathematically confirmed just yet.

Slot’s men could get their hands on the trophy against Leicester on Sunday (20 April) if Arsenal were to lose to Ipswich and then the Merseyside outfit beat the Foxes.

Nevertheless, even if the Gunners are victorious against the Tractor Boys, it’s only a matter of time until Liverpool do have their title confirmed.

The boss has kept his line-ups relatively strong throughout the campaign, regardless of opponent, but this is expected to be an extremely easy game, which could prompt some rotation.

Although relegation is yet to be confirmed for Leicester, their form throughout the campaign has been dismal, and they have won just four games all term.

The two sides have had different seasons.

If they do lose this game, that will be enough to send the Foxes back to the Championship.

Last time out, Ruud van Nistelrooy’s men did take a point against Brighton, although they are another side in poor form and you wouldn’t expect Liverpool to face any threat at the King Power Stadium.

Meanwhile, Joe Gomez remains out on the sidelines as he continues to rebuild his fitness.

Harry Winks and Wout Faes are both doubts for Leicester, while Harry Souttar and Abdul Fatawu are all out longer-term.

Given the vast difference in the two sides’ seasons, it’s no surprise that the Opta supercomputer is backing Liverpool to win this game by quite some way with a 73.2 per cent chance of victory.

A share of the points is also more likely with a 15.9 per cent chance, while there is only a 10.9 per cent chance of Leicester pulling off a shock result to save their Premier League status for another week.
