Liverpool send delegation to Tottenham as top target emerges

Liverpool look certain to revamp their attacking options in the summer transfer window.

Arne Slot has seen his Liverpool side score 74 goals in the Premier League, with Mohamed Salah having particularly impressed as the Reds canter towards the title.

Salah has extended his stay Anfield by an extra two years in a huge boost to Liverpool’s plans for next campain.

However, there have been issues at Liverpool surrounding the form of Darwin Nunez and the availability of Diogo Jota, and the Reds are apparently in the market for a new man up front.

Bundesliga ace is Liverpool’s ‘type of player’

Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike has hit the ground running in Germany, with 14 Bundesliga goals in 28 games giving the 22-year old a rate of one goal every other game, while he has 21 across all competitions.

The German club signed Ekitike in the summer of 2024 from Paris Saint-Germain, and ever since fellow attacker Omar Marmoush left for Manchester City in January, he has been Frankfurt’s key man.

CaughtOffside has reported that Liverpool want the Frenchman for a fee in the region of £73million but will face competition from fellow Premier League contenders Arsenal for his signature.

The report states that the Reds see Ekitike as a “top target” for the summer and sent scouts to check on the 22-year-old for Frankfurt’s Europa League quarter-final tie at Tottenham last week.

The publication says that sources close to Liverpool have said they are “seriously considering” making a move for Ekitike.

Frankfurt have a track record of selling attackers for a high price, including Randal Kolo Muani to PSG for over £80 million and Sebastien Haller to West Ham for £34 million.

Liverpool have other options

Ekitike is not the only attacker that Liverpool are in the market for, with two other players heavily linked to the club.

One is Newcastle and Sweden superstar Alexander Isak, who is reportedly valued at over £85m, and has lit up the Premier League with 21 goals in 29 games for the Magpies this campaign.

Another is versatile Brighton attacker Joao Pedro, who has contributed with goals and but assists to Brighton’s exploits this season. The Brazilian has 10 goals and six assists so far this campaign, with Brighton having been in contention for Europe at one stage this season.

Whoever the Reds sign, it is sure to be a large sum of money to whichever club decides to sell – but Liverpool have clearly managed their finances well.
