Liverpool fans ‘right to be excited’ after new Lionel Messi development

Liverpool fans are suddenly excited as an unexpected development has now arisen over one of their star players.

Arne Slot’s side have had an enjoyable season, with Liverpool set to win the Premier League, and two key stars extending their contracts.

Virgil van Dijk is now expected to follow Mohamed Salah in signing a new deal to stay at Liverpool, with Salah putting pen to paper on a bumper deal.

Salah has reached legendary status at Liverpool and in the wider Premier League, and is now a global superstar, although no one quite has the reach of Lionel Messi.

Salah has now celebrated his new contract by confirming a deal for a high-end watch, which cost just under £1million.

Insane Luxury Life posted a picture of the Egyptian winger with his rare Richard Mille watch, alongside his contract extension.

Former Barcelona sensation Messi ‘liked’ the post, sending Liverpool fans into a frenzy given how quiet the Argentine usually is on social media.

Some questioned whether it could mean Salah and Messi link up next season, while another personally pleaded with him to sign.

There is nothing to suggest that Messi could be heading to Anfield any time soon, but the superstar is clearly in admiration of Salah and his new status – and fans have every right to dream ‘what if?’.

Messi’s record against Liverpool

Messi has featured against Liverpool on several high-profile occasions over the years, but it has not been easy for him against the Reds.

A young Messi failed to contribute any goals or assists as Liverpool knocked Barcelona out of the Champions League in 2007 on away goals, with a 2-1 win at the Camp Nou and a 1-0 win at Anfield.

The Argentinian did score twice, including an outstanding free kick, as Barcelona beat Liverpool 3-0 in the first leg of the 2019 semi-finals, but the Reds had the last laugh.

Messi was stunned at Anfield as Liverpool pulled off a historic 4-0 victory in the second leg, in what was one of his final Champions League campaigns at Barcelona.
