Murphy gushes over ‘phenomenal’ Liverpool star v West Ham, Dion Dublin agrees

Danny Murphy wasn’t one for holding back with his praise as Liverpool secured a huge three points against West Ham on Sunday.

The Hammers looked to have stolen a point late in the day on 13 April when Andy Robertson scored a bizarre own goal after a lack of communication.

Luckily for Arne Slot, Virgil van Dijk headed home the winner on 89 minutes to all but secure a second Premier League title on the red side of Merseyside.

This summed up a superb campaign for the L4 club, with Murphy and Dion Dublin left blown away by the level of performance against the Irons.

Murphy amazed by Alisson v West Ham

There is no doubt that the Reds have heavily relied on multiple key players in their mission to secure their place at the top of the table.

Mohamed Salah has taken the headlines with his consistent goal and assist output, which have made him arguably the most impactful player in the division.

With that being said, the Egypt international’s goals would have been in vain if it wasn’t for Alisson in goal at Anfield.

The 32-year-old has been superb since signing from Roma in 2018 and has arguably found his best form this campaign with his latest stellar showing coming against the Irons.

Speaking on Match of the Day 2 (13 April), Dublin was astounded by the Brazilian’s performance as he made multiple key saves.

He said: “Look at the starting position, it’s absolutely outstanding. Then he gets back and gets something on that to tip it onto the bar, that’s two certain goals. He did it four or five times.”

Murphy was also highly impressed as he added: “I think his calmness on those one-on-ones, when you see a keeper staying so calm, it’s so intimidating. He is a phenomenal goalkeeper.”

Alisson saves Liverpool once again

There is no doubt that Slot’s side could be in a completely different position if it wasn’t for their number one keeper this season.

His performances throughout the year, across all competitions, have been superb, with his showing against PSG being particularly memorable.

Despite being knocked out of the Champions League, the Premier League title does look set to be on its way to Anfield, largely thanks to the Brazil international.

Even with the success of Caoimhin Kelleher, the difference that the ex-Internacional man can make is huge and represents a huge miss when absent, there is no doubt.
