Chelsea ‘guard of honour’ possible as Liverpool close in on Premier League title
Liverpool are coasting towards the Premier League title and extended their lead over Arsenal to 13 points with a 2-1 win over West Ham on Sunday.
Arne Slot’s men suffered their second league defeat of the season when they were beaten 3-2 by Fulham on 6 April.
The Reds then looked set to drop points for a second successive game when West Ham equalised on Sunday via Andy Robertson’s own goal.
However, Virgil van Dijk epitomised Liverpool’s strong character as he bagged a late winner by heading home Alexis Mac Allister’s corner.

Chelsea can help Liverpool enjoy their Premier League success even more
Victories over Leicester and Tottenham in their next two games would guarantee that the Reds will have won the Premier League title by the time they visit Chelsea on 4 May.
Premier League table (Top two) | Games played | Goal difference | Points |
1 Liverpool | 32 | 43 | 76 |
2 Arsenal | 32 | 30 | 63 |
Speaking live on talkSPORT [07.39, 14 April], Henry Winter shared how sweet that would feel at Stamford Bridge, saying: “If they get a guard of honour from Chelsea, that will add to the richness of the experience for Liverpool fans.”

Slot will look to win more trophies with Liverpool next season
There is no doubt that Slot has done a remarkable job by almost leading Liverpool to their first Premier League title since 2020 in his first season at Anfield.
However, the Reds’ success has been certain for weeks now amid Arsenal’s inconsistent form, and the Merseyside giants will be disappointed that they were knocked out of the Champions League by Paris Saint-Germain just days before losing to Newcastle at Wembley in the Carabao Cup final.
Slot has made a superb start to his tenure at Anfield, and Liverpool supporters will not have expected the Dutchman to deliver the Premier League title at the start of the season.
However, come next term, the Reds boss will then hope to clinch more trophies next term, especially after star man Mo Salah penned a new two-year deal.
But as alluded to by Winter, the Anfield faithful would love to see their side given a guard of honour by familiar Premier League foe Chelsea.
