Andy Robertson ‘is finished’ at Liverpool – Three things learned in win v West Ham

Liverpool took a significant step towards winning the Premier League title after defeating West Ham United 2-1 on Sunday.

The Reds took the lead in the 18th minute through Luis Diaz, after what had been a very comfortable start to the game for Arne Slot’s men at Anfield.

However, what appeared set to be an easy afternoon stroll out for league leaders proved to be anything but that as Graham Potter’s men amplified the pressure.

Liverpool almost ended up dropping two points when Andy Robertson put the ball into the back of his own net in the 86th minute as West Ham’s pressure paid off.

Virgil van Dijk came to the rescue, though, as he scored the match winner in the 89th minute, reminding everyone just how pivotal he is to success at Anfield.

Robertson is finished at Liverpool

It has been a tough season individually for the Scotland international, no longer being guaranteed a place in the starting line-up on a weekly basis as he had been under Jurgen Klopp.

Robertson was benched for the game against West Ham, and he had to wait until the 60th minute to be introduced, in a decision that almost cost the team.

The left-back was supposed to be providing experience to see the game out, but poor communication with Van Dijk led to him scoring an own goal.

It was an embarrassing situation that only added to the question marks surrounding Robertson right now, and whether he’s still at the level necessary to play for Liverpool.

The full-back has been linked with a move away from Anfield at the end of this season, and more performances like this will likely push him closer to the exit door.

Mohamed Salah proves Liverpool made the right call

One player who isn’t going anywhere is Mohamed Salah, who signed a new two-year deal with the Merseyside giants this week to give everyone associated with the club something to smile about.

Some opposing fans had claimed Salah’s performance levels would drop off after securing a new deal, but it took him less than 20 minutes to prove Liverpool made the right call.

Liverpool need to get out of first gear

Even though Liverpool managed to take all three points from this game, it was a less-than-convincing performance from the team at the top of the Premier League.

The Reds were lucky that Arsenal dropped points again this weekend as Mikel Arteta’s men are evidently focused on European success, but Liverpool fans don’t want that to impact their season.

Slot’s men have dropped off dramatically as of late in terms of performance levels, and the results have been impacted by that, with the team seemingly never getting out of second gear on Sunday until West Ham equalised.

Even Jamie Carragher noted on commentary that the Anfield atmosphere was flat, which was largely down to the underwhelming performance that they were being treated to.

While it would take something unbelievable to stop them from winning the title at this point, fans don’t want to see Liverpool limp to the title, especially when they’re not playing in any other competition.
