Liverpool injury news: Joe Gomez update emerges

Liverpool defender Joe Gomez is not expected to return to full fitness this season post his hamstring surgery, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.

The injury expert claims that the procedure he would’ve undergone would be to reattach the tendon and clear scar issues, if any.

The 27-year-old was last seen in action in the Premier League when the Reds beat West Ham 5-0 at the London Stadium.

He did feature for 11 minutes against Plymouth in the FA Cup, but suffered an injury again.

Gomez unlikely to be back in full training before May

While the England international has not been ruled out for the season, he is expected to miss more games than he plays before the end of May.

With Liverpool expected to cruise to the title, there appears to be little rush behind the scenes to speed up his timeline and risk any re-injury.

Speaking about this situation, Dr Brar, a doctor in physical therapy and a sports scientist, told Liverpool News: “In the case of hamstring surgeries, it’s typically done to reattach the tendon and potentially clear up any scar tissue.

If he’s on track, then I’d expect him to be close to full training near start or mid May.

However, he is unlikely to return to full fitness before the end of the season.

Liverpool physios are expected to spend extra time with Gomez in the summer

Gomez can focus on a structured summer plan to regain full fitness after injury setbacks.

He should prioritise a tailored rehabilitation program, working closely with the Reds’ physios to strengthen his core, improve flexibility and rebuild muscle endurance.

The Englishman should gradually progress to football-specific drills, such as sprinting and ball work, to restore agility and confidence.

Mental conditioning can boost resilience and the medics at the club will undoubtedly spend extra time.

Consistent monitoring by medical staff will ensure he avoids overexertion, setting him up for a strong return to Arne Slot’s side.
