Virgil van Dijk reacts as new Liverpool contract is officially announced
Liverpool have had some big contract decisions hovering over them throughout the season so far.
It was reported that Trent Alexander-Arnold is set to leave Anfield for Real Madrid in the summer.
However, the futures of Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah have still been uncertain as the summer transfer window edges closer.

Van Dijk reacts to new Liverpool contract news
Although Liverpool have had an excellent season under the management of Arne Slot, a recent dip in form has made contract negotiations the focal point.
There have been suggestions throughout the campaign that the Reds’ success has been as much down to Arsenal’s struggles as it has been their own quality.
Therefore, there is already plenty of pressure on Slot to perform next season meaning he will need his strongest squad available.
Alexander-Arnold’s departure from Anfield left some supporters with a sour taste in their mouth and no doubt caused worries about the future of his teammates too.
With that in mind, supporters will have felt a big sigh of relief after it was announced that Salah has signed a new contract with the Merseyside outfit, tying him down until 2027.
Van Dijk is also expected to put pen to paper on a new deal and his response to his teammate’s deal may suggest that is indeed the case.
After Salah shared pictures on Instagram announcing his stay, van Dijk liked the post.
Slot to push Liverpool on
Although the Reds are probably in their worst period of the campaign so far, it cannot be underestimated just how well they have done this term.
The new boss has handled the transition seamlessly and with just two league defeats all season, he must be doing something right.
There will still be work to do at Anfield in the summer transfer window and faces to come through the door but retaining the services of Salah and van Dijk boosts his side’s chances for more success.
Player | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
Salah | 31 | 27 | 17 |
van Dijk | 31 | 1 | 1 |
Both men have had excellent seasons and many have suggested that they were the most crucial contracts for Liverpool to get sorted this term.
This will no doubt be a massive boost for all on Merseyside and if he has another two years, Salah will be keen to achieve more.
Next up is a game against West Ham on Sunday (13 April) at Anfield. This is a perfect opportunity to get back on track and the atmosphere will no doubt be rocking.
