Liverpool fans could have background worry after Mohamed Salah breakthrough
Liverpool supporters have been nervously awaiting updates on whether Mohamed Salah will extend his iconic presence at Anfield.
The same can be said for Virgil van Dijk, with the Reds finding themselves in a remarkable and unprecedented situation regarding the contracts of their most glittering stars.
Trent Alexander-Arnold looks to be the one who got away as he closes in on a free transfer to Real Madrid, but Salah has over time looked far likelier to lengthen his eight-year stay on Merseyside.

Salah contract news emerges
Liverpool fans have been on the edge of their seats hoping Salah above all is able to stay at Anfield and prolong a career which has exceeded legendary status.
The Egyptian has led a winning culture at Anfield comparable with that of Steven Gerrard, and has – like Gerrard – led the Reds through some turbulent times.
According to The Times (9 April), developments have further advanced after discussing financial terms and contract length for months, and Salah is now close to agreeing a new deal to stay at Liverpool.
With 54 goal contributions and counting this campaign, the thought of Salah walking away on a free would have been sickening – but it now looks like the 32-year-old is about to back his word that he is happy and at home in the Premier League.
It is understood van Dijk is not far behind Salah in terms of agreeing to extend his Liverpool stay, which comes as a massive boost which could even leave most Reds fans content on the whole with losing Alexander-Arnold – the acknowledgement things could have been so much more catastrophic.

Liverpool fans will still worry about Salah
It’s absolutely true Salah remains one of the very best and most consistent on the planet, likewise it remains true Liverpool would have been at a ridiculous loss without him next year.
However, realistic fans will wonder for how long Salah can maintain his form, as he turns 33 in two months’ time.
Down the years, we have seen many of the best in Europe fall off a cliff somewhat in terms of form as they approach their mid-thirties, particularly if they have held the talisman figure at a club for multiple seasons.
Mo Salah – career stats | Appearances | Goals |
Liverpool | 394 | 243 |
Career total | 646 | 320 |
The contract length was unspecified until David Ornstein (9 April) detailed an expiry year of 2027, but if Salah is earning a ridiculous amount parallel with his present contribution – without which Liverpool would not be about to become champions again – this could be an inconvenience in what is a ruthless game if his form does take an unexpected major drop.
For now, however, things are very much looking up and it looks certain that Salah will continue to have a decisive impact on the Reds for a couple of years yet.
