Shay Given slams Ibrahima Konate after Liverpool footage in loss v Fulham

Liverpool suffered their third defeat in just four games when they were beaten 3-2 by Fulham on Sunday afternoon.

The Reds’ loss at Craven Cottage marked just their second Premier League defeat of the season, but Arne Slot’s men were recently knocked out of the Champions League by PSG.

The Merseyside giants then went on to lose to Newcastle in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley, while their loss at Fulham disrupted the positive momentum from the Merseyside derby win over Everton.

Despite their recent setbacks, though, Liverpool still hold a significant 11-point lead over Arsenal in the Premier League title race.

Ibrahima Konate destroyed in Liverpool’s defeat v Fulham

Liverpool’s defending against Fulham was uncharacteristically sloppy, and Ibrahima Konate was at the heart of a poor day at the office.

The France international was lucky that Marco Silva’s men did not score, or were given a penalty, after a piece of skill went wrong in his own box.

Shay Given could not believe his eyes at the footage on Match of the Day 2 (6 April), saying: “Konate in the first half really was all over the place.

“I don’t know what he tried, a drag back in his own box?”

Liverpool should bounce back from Fulham setback

The Reds look all but certain to win the Premier League title at the end of a season that has been largely formidable.

However, in recent weeks, Liverpool have dropped below the lofty standards they have set for themselves, which was on display as they looked sloppy against Fulham.

But up next, Slot’s men face West Ham on Sunday and should fancy their chances of getting back to winning ways and earning their second consecutive victory at Anfield.

West Ham have not managed to win since their 2-0 win over Leicester on 27 February and sit just 16th in the Premier League table amid a disappointing campaign.

Most top-flight sides would back themselves to overcome the Hammers, let alone a Liverpool outfit who are simply a matter of time away from winning the Premier League title.

Furthermore, last time out against the London Stadium side, the Reds enjoyed a 5-0 victory back in December, and a repeat would be very welcome.
