Federico Chiesa ‘finished at Liverpool already’ as Slot eyes new transfer

Federico Chiesa has endured a lack of game time at Liverpool since joining the Reds last summer.

The Italy international has made just four Premier League appearances this term, which have all come from the bench.

Chiesa has only featured for 33 minutes of Liverpool’s successful top-flight campaign and could already regret moving to Merseyside.

Despite the wideman’s lack of impact at Anfield, Arne Slot’s men are on course to win the Premier League title and sit 11 points above Arsenal with seven games left to play.

Liverpool want Borussia Dortmund winger

According to Give Me Sport, the Reds have been scouting Borussia Dortmund star Jamie Gittens ahead of the summer transfer window.

Jamie Gittens has been a real asset for Dortmund this term

Dortmund have endured a difficult Bundesliga season and sit just eighth in the German top flight, but Gittens has enjoyed a successful individual campaign, notching 12 goals and three assists in 42 appearances across all competitions.

Sky Sports Germany’s Florian Plettenberg revealed via X (7 April) that the Manchester City academy product has also attracted interest from Bayern, but a Premier League return appeals to him.

Liverpool interest in Gittens is a major concern for Chiesa

Even though Chiesa scored the only goal as Liverpool lost 2-1 to Newcastle in last month’s Carabao Cup final, it appears evident that he is already out of favour at Anfield despite joining just last summer.

Chiesa has not been named in Slot’s starting 11 since the Reds were knocked out of the FA Cup by Championship strugglers Plymouth in February.

He also featured in the Liverpool line-up that suffered a 3-2 defeat to PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League back in February, so each of his last two starts have resulted in losses.

His lack of minutes in the Premier League will be a concern for the Italy international, while the Reds’ interest in Gittens is indicative that Slot and Co may have already found a replacement for Chiesa, who could already be set for his Anfield exit.

Furthermore, Liverpool talisman Mo Salah is close to agreeing fresh terms with the Merseyside giants, so Slot’s interest in Gittens cannot be viewed as an attempt at finding a replacement for the Egyptian superstar.

Chiesa may be finished at Anfield already.
