Liverpool star sends Kevin De Bruyne message after Man City announcement

Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk has sent Kevin De Bruyne a message after the midfielder announced he’d be leaving Manchester City.

After spending a decade in Manchester, the Belgium international will part ways with the Sky Blues at the end of the season.

Van Dijk has had a historic rivalry with Man City, with the Reds finally on course to end Pep Guradiola’s monopoly in the English top flight.

Arne Slot’s team are favourites to win the Premier League this season after the Citizens’ four consecutive title victories.

De Bruyne sent a message to Man City fans on Instagram (4 April), confirming he’d be leaving the Etihad Stadium at the end of the current campaign.

The 33-year-old’s current contract expires at the end of the season, and he won’t be renewing his deal, becoming a free agent next summer.

Van Dijk reacted to the Belgian national’s social media post, commenting with a “raising hands” emoji to celebrate the midfielder’s achievements in Manchester.

While De Bruyne has been a fierce rival of the Merseyside outfit over the years, the Anfield faithful will recognise his services to the Premier League.

Slot to continue Anfield success next season

Slot has exceeded expectations at Anfield in the current campaign after replacing Jurgen Kopp last summer.

The Reds will undoubtedly be disappointed after losing to Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup final and being knocked out of the Champions League by Paris Saint-Germain (PSG),

Van Dijk and the rest of his teammates can be proud of potentially lifting the Merseyside outfit’s 20th league title.

Liverpool have managed to win every competition in an era where Man City have arguably been the best team in the world.

After what the former Feyenoord manager has done this season, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the Reds continue to dominate the Premier League.

Guardiola’s team will evidently become weaker without the quality and leadership of De Bruyne next season, handing the Merseysiders an apparent advantage.

Anfield could potentially see some of their own influential stars leave soon, though, with Trent Alexander-Arnold, Van Dijk and Mohamed Salah’s contracts in the final months.
