Mohamed Salah on verge of full agreement with Liverpool saga close to finishing

Liverpool are edging closer to a new deal for Mohamed Salah and want an agreement sorted before the end of the season.

In a triple-pronged contract saga unprecedented at this level at Anfield, Trent Alexander-Arnold is set to leave for Real Madrid and has attracted widespread criticism from Liverpool fans.

Elsewhere, negotiations continue over Virgil van Dijk as the summer could be make-or-break for Arne Slot, with three of his elite stars almost out of contract.

Liverpool and Salah contract breakthrough

If Liverpool supporters could pick just one of their summer contract expiry trio to remain beyond this season and sign an extension, most would opt for Salah.

The Egyptian is still producing consistent jaw-dropping performances with a sublime end product, and must be kept at all costs despite his age of 32.

According to Foot Mercato’s Santi Aouna (2 April) on X, Salah is close to agreeing fresh terms on a contract extension with Liverpool.

It is now reported that a full agreement is now close to being struck, with the Reds confident of tying down their talisman and preventing him leaving on a free.

Alexander-Arnold may be irretrievable, but Salah is now on course to extend his incredible stint on Merseyside.

Slot will breathe huge sigh of relief at Salah news

A manager or head coach can attempt to convince a player and his camp all they like, but it ultimately comes down to a variety of different parties to make a contract happen as it will with Salah.

But this is a massive sigh of relief for Slot and those at Liverpool, who are still fully confident Salah can continue to perform at a world-class level in front of the Kop well into his mid-thirties.

Salah is forever in Liverpool folklore (as of 2 April before Everton (H))

Alexander-Arnold is a prime example of how a club can be punished for letting a contract situation get to a certain point – though he is also jointly responsible; Salah is an instance of getting away with it.

With the news arriving on screens and desks at the dawn of Liverpool’s Merseyside derby clash with Everton at Anfield (2 April), Salah will be hoping to further continue the love affair with the Reds supporters with yet another match-winning impact.
