He posted a video on X, saying: “You should be saying thank you and good luck.
“You didn’t pay a penny for him, he came through your academy, he’s one of your own, and he won it all.
“This kid has been there, worn the shirt, been one of your best players, most productive players in one of the most successful periods in recent years.
“Because he’s choosing to go and leave the club, not for a rival, not for a team in the Premier League, he’s going to the biggest club right now in the world, which is Real Madrid.
“You should be saying I’d love him to stay, but well done.
“You should be clapping him off and saying we’ll give you a hero’s welcome when you eventually come back in 15 years, when you finish your career.”
Alexander-Arnold deserves enormous respect from Liverpool supporters
Ferdinand may be one of the best players in the history of Liverpool’s biggest rival, Manchester United, and his stance regarding Reds supporters will unlikely be welcomed.
While plying his trade for the Anfield giants, Alexander-Arnold has rightfully gained a reputation as one of the best right-backs in the world, and fans should not hold a grudge against him if he does agree terms with Madrid.
Over the years, the exceptionally gifted full-back has provided some fantastic attacking returns, as seen in the 2021/22 season when he notched two goals and 18 assists in all competitions.
He also played a major role when the Reds clinched the Premier League title in 2019/20, as he scored four goals and created 13 assists in 38 top-flight outings.
Alexander-Arnold has played a major role in helping the Anfield club win the Premier League, Champions League, two Carabao Cups, and an FA Cup.
The 26-year-old is now set to win his second top-flight title with the Reds and should always be respected by Liverpool supporters, regardless of whether he leaves for Madrid.
With Conor Bradley now returning from injury as Alexander-Arnold remains out injured, the process of moulding the perfect successor is set to kick on at Anfield.
Arne Slot will play a huge role in that, and the Dutchman will have everything crossed that new contracts can be agreed with Mo Salah and Virgil van Dijk, especially if Alexander-Arnold is gone.
