FSG ‘to pull off Liverpool masterstroke’ amid major development at Spanish club

Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group are not the most popular figures on Merseyside, but they could now expand their football empire.

FSG own Baseball giants Boston Red Sox as well as Liverpool, but despite a recent period of success aligned with manager Jurgen Klopp, the American group are not popular amongst the fanbase.

Many believe that FSG’s interests are not on a level with Liverpool’s when it comes to investment in the squad, despite some high-profile signings in recent years helping Arne Slot power towards the Premier League title in his first season.

It recently emerged that FSG and John Henry are now considering an investment into Malaga, who are currently in the second division of Spanish football, and this has been greeted with a mixed response from Liverpool fans and the wider footballing world.

FSG consider investment into Malaga CF

The Athletic report (29 March) that FSG are considering an investment into Malaga, who have not been in the Spanish top flight since 2018.

Malaga have encountered a number of issues with their ownership over the past decade, and have been in decline since reaching the Champions League quarter-finals in 2013.

FSG’s investment would be part of Reds’ proposed plans to follow the likes of Manchester City and Chelsea with a multi-club model, which may not sit well with a lot of Liverpool fans as the sporting integrity of creating such a group is questionable.

However, there are clear benefits for Liverpool and Malaga if the takeover does eventually happen.

FSG Malaga investment could give Liverpool access to young talents

Malaga are historically a well-renowned club across Europe, and their academy has produced some incredible talents over the years.

Notable players to have come through the Malaga academy in the past includes Fernando Hierro and Youssef En-Nesyri, and right now there are some noteworthy young talents coming through at La Rosaleda.

In recent years, Real Madrid star Brahim Diaz and Liverpool target Dean Huijsen have also developed at Malaga, and the potential for the Reds to gain extra access to this level of talent is perhaps a motivating factor behind the proposed deal.

Right now, Malaga have several wonderkids, with 18-year-old winger Antonino Cordero attracting attention, and should FSG invest into the Spanish side, Liverpool could gain a significant advantage by gaining a first look at these young stars.

There are certainly cons with any such takeover, but both clubs currently stand to benefit overall should the deal progress.

Malaga could benefit from the extra investment and different ownership, and Liverpool could sign top-class youth talent as a result of FSG’s plans.
