Alexander-Arnold slammed as a ‘Judas’ live on air after Liverpool transfer reveal

Trent Alexander-Arnold has been heavily criticised in recent days, with his upcoming Liverpool exit seemingly drawing nearer.

It was reported earlier this week that Alexander-Arnold is set to join Real Madrid on a free transfer, when his Liverpool contract expires at the end of the season.

This has caused a lot of anger within the Liverpool fanbase. Whilst some recognise he has fulfilled his contract and won every trophy with his boyhood club, many are critical over the fact he is leaving for free.

With this week’s news a bombshell at Anfield, Alexander-Arnold has continued to receive criticism from fans and media, and has now been blasted for his decision.

Alexander-Arnold set for Liverpool exit

With Alexander-Arnold’s impending move to Real Madrid a hotly debated topic, talkSPORT presenter Rory Jennings has now slammed the 26-year-old for the way in which he has orchestrated this move.

“It’s really poor that it’s come to this, and I think everybody involved – nobody’s painted themselves in a particularly positive light,” Jennings explained [29 March].

“The reason why Liverpool are in a slight quandary at the moment, is that Trent Alexander-Arnold is a Judas. He’s clearly a Judas.

“He hasn’t really conducted himself well. If he really wanted to conduct himself fine, he could have signed a contract, with a break clause, and ensured that Liverpool got a fee for him.

“It’s wrong if you care about the institution you are leaving, because they are losing an £80million player for nothing. It’s Liverpool’s fault, and his own fault.”

Trent Alexander-Arnold criticism was inevitable

Whether Alexander-Arnold departed for free or for a huge fee, it was inevitable that he would receive criticism for his decision.

The defender has been at Liverpool since he was seven, and became the club’s vice-captain under Jurgen Klopp.

As a local, many believed that for the England international, playing for his boyhood club would have been Alexander-Arnold’s priority, and that he may have chosen to stay and become a true club legend.

However, Alexander-Arnold’s priorities are clearly different, with a new challenge in Spain more desirable for him, and as soon as this decision was made, he was set to be hit with a wave of criticism.

There is no guarantee that Liverpool would have let the full-back leave if he did sign a new deal like many wish he had, and perhaps he saw running his contract down as his only exit strategy.

Nevertheless, his decision has caused anger among large portions of the fanbase, and it will be interesting to see what reception he receives at Anfield the next time he appears there.
