Chris Sutton aims jibe at Carragher after what he said about Alexander-Arnold
Chris Sutton has hit back at Jamie Carragher over his comments about Trent Alexander-Arnold leaving Liverpool on a free transfer.
Liverpool fans did not have much time to relax during the international break after it emerged that Alexander-Arnold has agreed to join Real Madrid on a five-year deal worth over £220,000 a week.
While the news is yet to be confirmed by the player or both the clubs involved, it has sparked a strong reaction from the Reds faithful, with many furious at the right-back’s decision.
Fingers are being pointed in all directions as the England international looks set to end his long-term association with the Anfield outfit.

Sutton disagrees with Carragher
Carragher broke his silence on the matter on the Stick to Football podcast on Thursday (27 March), suggesting that Alexander-Arnold should perhaps commit to Liverpool as a boyhood fan and aim to win many more trophies with them.
Sutton, though, has made no secret of his disagreement with the Sky Sports pundit, insisting that it is easy for him to make such an argument, having spent all his career with the Reds himself.

He went on to take a cheeky dig at Carragher, saying that the only reason he did not pursue a move to a club like Real Madrid was perhaps that he never received such an offer.
“On Jamie Carragher and what he said, it’s quite easy for him to turn around after being a one-club man and to judge somebody because of his sort of status at the club and the loyalty which he showed”, Sutton said on It’s All Kicking Off (27 March).
“But, maybe he never had an offer to go to Real Madrid. Jamie Carragher was an excellent player, but I think it’s very easy in these circumstances just to turn around and say, ‘He should stick at Liverpool forever because he’s a Liverpool lad.
“But these things, it doesn’t happen so much in this day and age, and the fact of the matter is some people could maybe look at this and think, ‘Well, if he didn’t go to Real Madrid, then he lacks ambition’.”
Liverpool fans fume at Alexander-Arnold
It is worth noting that most Liverpool fans are not angry at Alexander-Arnold because he chose to join Real Madrid, but because he let his contract run down to leave for free.
The England international is said to have rejected multiple contract proposals over the last several months to pursue a move to Spain, much to the supporters’ annoyance.
Fans cannot be faulted for wishing that their club received a significant amount of money when a player they brought up is leaving.
That is why there has been such a strong reaction to the news about the 26-year-old agreeing to join Real Madrid at the end of the season.
The timing of the news coming out in the media has also annoyed some.
Alexander-Arnold has privately maintained that he does not want his contract saga to play out in the public domain, but the fact that all these updates have emerged in the Spanish media does not sit right with many.
