Liverpool urged to complete ‘crazy’ Isak swap deal – ‘Make it happen’

Liverpool’s pursuit of Newcastle striker Alexander Isak has received a boost ahead of the summer transfer window.

The Merseysiders’ interest in Isak has been piqued by a remarkable season in which the Swedish star has notched 19 goals and five assists in the Premier League.

Despite the Anfield outfit strolling towards the title, Arne Slot is unhappy with the options available to him in attack, and a £150million deal has been mooted.

The pathway to a deal may be closer after a new development from the North East involving a Reds player.

Newcastle lining up Quansah deal amid Liverpool Isak interest

Jarell Quansah has struggled at Liverpool this season and questions remain over whether Slot fully trusts the young centre-back.

However, he may have an exit route in the summer with Newcastle preparing a bid for the 21-year-old defender.

A report from The Times (26 March) claims that the Magpies are set to offer £30m plus add-ons in an attempt to entice the Reds to sell.

Liverpool can use Quansah interest in Isak deal

It makes no sense for the Reds to sell Quansah unless it is to secure a deal for the Sweden international.

Supporters seem to agree with that sentiment and while they would be reluctant to see the academy graduate leave, they have urged Richard Hughes to sanction the swap with Isak coming the other way.

However, selling the England Under-21 international may leave the Anfield outfit with more to do in the transfer market as they would have only Ibrahima Konate and Joe Gomez to play in the heart of defence, if Virgil van Dijk does not agree on a new deal.

Even if the captain does sign a new contract, they will still have to invest in at least one central defender if they allowed Quansah to leave, in addition to several other additions that are needed.

Slot may decide to enter the market for a new right-back with Trent Alexander-Arnold leaving, a new left-back is needed with Andy Robertson coming to the end of his Anfield career, and a new winger could be on the cards if Mohamed Salah does not sign a new deal.

That is the very minimum requirement; there may be space for another winger and another midfielder to relieve Ryan Gravenberch’s minutes, while Isak would be a great addition, sacrificing Quansah may not be the correct move.
