Liverpool in Alexander-Arnold twist as ‘audacious’ new transfer bid emerges

Liverpool have remained tight-lipped on Trent Alexander-Arnold’s situation amid reports of an imminent transfer to Real Madrid.

Alexander-Arnold is set to leave Liverpool on a free transfer when his contract runs out at the end of the season, as things stand, with Real Madrid said to have struck a deal already.

Journalists close to the Anfield outfit have maintained that the club have not been informed of such an agreement as Madrid would be obliged to.

However, all signs point towards Alexander-Arnold playing under Carlo Ancelotti in Spain next season.

Real Madrid to launch new bid to sign Alexander-Arnold

In a latest turn of events, it has emerged that Real Madrid want to complete Alexander-Arnold’s signing before the FIFA Club World Cup in the United States.

The La Liga giants are exploring whether they can finalise the transfer earlier than expected so that he can play for them in the Club World Cup in June, according to the Mail.

They would be able to do that as there is a small transfer window between 1 and 10 June this time to allow clubs to strengthen their squads ahead of the new-look tournament.

However, the newspaper reported via their website on Wednesday (26 March) that Alexander-Arnold‘s deal does not expire until 30 June.

This means Madrid would have to pay the Reds a transfer fee if they want to realise their desire to see him play for them in the Club World Cup.

If such a deal is agreed, Arne Slot’s side would save a few weeks of wages while potentially bagging a small compensation fee.

However, that is easier said than done.

Liverpool to reject Real Madrid approach

It is hard to see Liverpool accept Real Madrid‘s bid to sign Alexander-Arnold early if they do so, as the transfer fee in question would be minimal.

It is worth noting that the Spanish giants were prepared to pay £20million for the England international in the winter transfer window.

Liverpool would be looking at a seven-figure fee or less if they were to agree to such an arrangement.

The Reds would already be disappointed about Alexander-Arnold leaving, and the last thing they would want is to help Real Madrid in their push for Club World Cup glory.
