Guillem Balague ‘gets it wrong’ in baffling Trent Alexander-Arnold exit verdict

Liverpool fans have been in meltdown after the reports Trent Alexander-Arnold is planning to move to Real Madrid.

The Reds academy graduate looks set to leave Anfield and join the Spanish giants upon the expiry of his contract in the summer.

Images were shared of Liverpool supporters burning shirts, and many believe that the 26-year-old has completely tarnished his legacy on Merseyside.

However, some observers have sympathised with the England star rather than siding with supporter anger on the matter.

Guillem Balague makes bizarre Alexander-Arnold claims

Alexander-Arnold looks likely to exit Liverpool, the club that he has been at since he was six years old and that gave him his rise to stardom.

However, Guillem Balague believes that Reds fans should be celebrating the move, not criticising the Three Lions ace.

In a video posted on his personal X account (26 March), the Spanish journalist said:

“I would say if you have a bit of empathy and forget about tribalism of football, you should clap his way out, he is a Liverpool kid that feels having fallen in love with Spanish football that Sky had it on every week.

“Clap him, just say ‘good on you’, just get out there and show that the mentality that we carved in you as a Liverpudlian can actually go abroad and do very well, it’s a day for celebration.

“Those of you who will think you know ‘he has gone on a free and it’s the club of his heart and all the words that he has said in the past, blah, blah, blah’, stay in that world if you like.

“Those of you that see what this kid has done, I’m sure that you will agree with me as I said at the beginning, pushing the limits is what makes us be the best we can be.”

Liverpool should not be happy after Alexander-Arnold exit

The suggestion from Balague that Reds supporters should be celebrating the loss of one of their best players is utterly baffling.

Alexander-Arnold is about to win another Premier League title with his boyhood club, if they withstand a late Arsenal push and keep doing their own business.

Liverpool are leading the way in the current Premier League table

It is not as if the Reds are not contending for the biggest honours themselves and are not a giant club and should be grateful that Madrid are poaching a homegrown star.

Liverpool will be significantly weaker without one of the best players in world football with the ball at his feet, it will be an almost impossible challenge to replace him, why should they be happy?

Especially when they are not getting a fee for the transfer, they will not see a penny for the services of a player that they allowed to flourish and rise to the top of the game because he decided to leave for nothing.

Balague has got it completely wrong with his claims, Alexander-Arnold will still be a Reds legend because of his achievements in the past but his legacy at the club that he loves will be vastly dimished, even if his wider footballing legacy is enhanced.
