Gabby Agbonlahor hits out at Liverpool fans after Alexander-Arnold news – ‘Idiot’

Trent Alexander-Arnold is set to leave Liverpool when his contract expires at the end of the season.

The right-back is one of three key players out of contract at Anfield at the end of the season, and it has now been reported that Alexander-Arnold will be making the move to Real Madrid.

The boyhood Liverpool fan has come under plenty of criticism from supporters since the reports emerged, while eyes now turn to the futures of Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk.

Gabby Agbonlahor hits out at Alexander-Arnold news

With three key players out of contract at the end of the campaign, it did seem unlikely that all three players would extend their stay with Arne Slot’s side.

However, some Liverpool supporters feel scorned because the right-back is leaving without Slot’s men receiving a fee for his services.

Now, supporters have been burning Liverpool shirts with the 26-year-old’s name on the back and claiming that he shouldn’t play for the Reds again.

However, Gabby Agbonlahor blasted supporters behaving this way as he said live on talkSPORT (26 March, 6:09am): “I think anybody that says anything negative about this decision is an idiot, basically.

“Any Liverpool fan out there, any other fanbase. Trent has won every trophy for his boyhood club. He’s got a chance to play at the biggest club in the world, who have won 15 Champions Leagues. How can you turn that down?

“You’re going to play with Mbappe, you’re going to play with your friend Jude Bellingham from England, a historic club.

“Obviously, Liverpool are a very historic club, but Real Madrid, you do not turn them down doesn’t matter who you are, and players who say they have in the past may be lying. Real Madrid probably didn’t want them.”

Liverpool have to shift focus

Given that Alexander-Arnold is a Liverpool boy, you can understand why supporters would be upset that he is set to leave Anfield at the end of the season, although some reactions are slightly over the top.

That being said, it’s a decision that cannot be changed now, and therefore, there is no chance in mulling over it for any longer.

Both Salah and van Dijk are in the same position heading to the summer transfer window, and neither has any clarity about what the future holds for them.

All three players have been integral parts of the Liverpool team this season.

Van Dijk has been open about his frustrations, making it clear he wants to have contract talks that result in a definitive outcome.

Meanwhile, Salah has attracted interest from elsewhere, and if Liverpool don’t secure his services, other clubs will waste no time in doing so instead.

There is pressure on Slot to deliver again with his Liverpool side next season, but if he is going to do so, he cannot afford to lose all three of these players.

Alexander-Arnold’s impending departure could serve as a warning for Liverpool and should definitely be a kick to get into gear and secure their other crucial players.
