Argentine media hail ‘Brilliant’ Alexis Mac Allister after what he did v Brazil

Liverpool star Alexis Mac Allister played a key role as Argentina hammered Brazil in their World Cup qualifier on Wednesday morning.

The 26-year-old’s performances have gone under the radar for the Reds in the Premier League this season but he should be considered as one of the world’s best.

He proved his credentials with a stunning display for his country that saw them demolish their arch-rivals 4-1 at the Estadio Mas Monumental.

The result leaves La Albiceleste top of the standings with 31 points, eight points ahead of second-placed Ecuador and 10 above the Selecao, who are in fourth-place.

Mac Allister shines in Argentina win over Brazil

Liverpool ace Mac Allister notched the third goal in the contest, nipping ahead of the goalkeeper to lob the ball over Bento after a pass from Chelsea star Enzo Fernandez.

That was the highlight of an excellent night, which saw the former Brighton star record an 87 per cent pass accuracy and make three passes into the final third while making five recoveries. [Fotmob].

The Argentine media enjoyed the performance with the Reds ace handed a nine out of 10 by Pagina 12, who said: “He was one of the most advanced players on the team, sometimes even playing as a false nine when Julián [Alvarez] started running all over the pitch. One of those players who is always signaling to organize the rest.”

BolaVip gave him an eight and a half and claimed that he was: “One of the key players in a midfield that functioned perfectly. He also produced a precise finish to set up Argentina’s third goal.”

Ole handed the midfielder an eight and stated that he had: “Pure authority. Play and brilliance. Brilliant finish to make it 3-1 without looking and anticipating Bento. He never made a mistake. He has no ceiling.”

Clarin were harsher and gave him a seven, saying: “Perhaps the least involved of the midfielders, but an important one. He scored another goal. In the first half, the team developed to the rhythm of his short passes.”

If Arne Slot‘s side are to do so, they need Mac Allister to return to Merseyside in a similar vein of form to his national team displays, as he is a key figure in the engine room with his tenacious presence.

Having scored against his country’s biggest rivals, he will hope to do the same for his club against Everton on 2 April and continue their procession towards the trophy.
