Yossi Benayoun makes claim about two stars Liverpool look set to lose

Liverpool have had an excellent season under Arne Slot and deservedly sit 12 points clear at the top of the Premier League table.

The Reds faced a disappointing week going into the international break after being knocked out of the Champions League and losing the Carabao Cup final and the key now is to see out the league season in good form.

Slot may have other things on his mind now though as a number of high-profile players see their contracts at Anfield expiring at the end of the season, with no idea what the future holds.

Yossi Benayoun makes Liverpool claim

The Reds may have other things to focus on this term but the expiring contracts of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah must be playing on the manager’s mind.

Although all three have been stand-out players at Anfield for some time now, the Reds have found themselves in a position where all three are free agents at the end of the campaign with no one yet tied down.

Alexander-Arnold has been linked with a move away while van Dijk has been vocal about his frustrations over a lack of discussion with Liverpool over his future.

As the conversations surrounding the three dominate headlines away from Merseyside, there has been plenty of debate about who is the most important man for the Reds to tie down ahead of next season.

Former Liverpool man Yossi Benayoun gave an indication of his answer as he was asked after a charity game which current player in the squad he would’ve liked to play with and he replied: “A lot of good players here but I have to say two. Van Dijk and Salah.”

Liverpool have to move on contract issues

It seems highly unlikely that Liverpool are going to be able to hang on to all three out-of-contract players which won’t be the end of the world as they are a side who are able to attract new recruits.

Similarly though, if Slot did lose all three it would put a serious dent in his hopes to guide his side to success again next season.

All three players have been integral parts of the Liverpool team this season.

The pressure is already on the Reds to perform next season as there have been some suggestions that their dominance is not due to Liverpool’s success but rather Arsenal’s failure.

When you look at the numbers Salah has contributed in front of the goal, it’s hard to argue that he isn’t worth the money to extend a contract at Anfield.

Similarly, van Dijk is still performing at his best level and can be a leader in the side as captain of the club.

There will come a day when the Mersyeide outfit do need to move on and plan for the future but that time is not upon them yet and Slot needs to secure his star men for next season.
