Arne Slot has ‘next senior Liverpool debutant’ ready after what happened

Liverpool have several top-quality young talents coming through the academy, and a number have already made their senior debuts in recent years.

The Carabao Cup final victory over Chelsea in 2024 saw a Liverpool squad consisting of several youngsters lift the trophy at Wembley, with a team brimming with teenage talent immortalising themselves in club history.

With Liverpool 12 points clear at the top of the Premier League, the late stages of this season could see further opportunities handed to young players.

There is one big talent catching the eye in the under-18 side, and he is now making waves on the international stage too.

Liverpool starlet Josh Sonni-Lambie scores for England under-18s

One of the brightest attackers in the academy is 17-year-old striker Josh Sonni-Lambie, who has stood out in his age group this season.

The centre-forward started for the England under-18 side as they took on France, with Sonni-Lambie upfront for his full debut, and he marked it with a goal.

The Liverpool attacker pounced on an error at the back before firing into the bottom corner, which gave England a 2-1 lead, but France managed to come away with a draw.

It was another impressive moment for the youngster, who may now be on Arne Slot’s radar for a debut in the coming seasons.

Josh Sonni-Lambie could earn Liverpool first-team debut

The attacker has been highly impressive at youth level, netting seven goals and providing three assists in 19 matches for the under-18s this season.

Sonni-Lambie signed his first professional contract at Liverpool in February, having joined at under-14 level, and is continuing to grow in stature in the academy.

If he continues to develop and perform in front of goal, it may only be a matter of time before he spends more time in and around the first-team squad, before a potential debut next season, or even in the final games of this season depending on how Liverpool’s Premier League title challenge pans out.

Should The Reds remain consistent in the league and secure the title with games to spare, there may be an opportunity for youngsters to earn game-time, and particularly in attack, with Federico Chiesa and Darwin Nunez amongst those rumoured to be leaving.
