Liverpool fans are all in agreement after Cody Gakpo goal vs Spain – ‘What if’
Liverpool endured a tough week as they saw hopes of a treble go up in smoke and renewed question marks emerge over the strength of their attacking options outside of Mohamed Salah.
A penalty shootout defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League was followed by a dismal performance against Newcastle in the Carabao Cup final, and there were several players who stood out as particularly poor.
Attackers Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota were heavily criticised after both games, while Cody Gakpo was only fit enough for the bench in those fixtures.
However, the latter of that trio was finally able to start again, this time for the Netherlands in their UEFA Nations League match against Spain, and it did not take him long to score.
Liverpool fans have now expressed their frustration following his excellent strike against the Euro 2024 Champions.

Liverpool fans lament recent Cody Gakpo absence
Gakpo struck well to equalise for the Netherlands in the first half of their clash against Spain, following Nico Williams’ early opener.
Whilst Jota, Diaz and Darwin Nunez have underwhelmed at times, Gakpo has been one of Liverpool’s more impressive attackers aside from Salah, and fans have now pointed out that the disastrous week could have been very different if the Dutchman was fully fit.
Liverpool fans clearly believe that Gakpo could have swung the PSG and Newcastle games in their favour if he was not carrying an injury, and the attacker was sorely missed from the starting XI.

Liverpool will benefit from Cody Gakpo return
Liverpool will be delighted that Gakpo was able to shake off his injury issues and rebuild his fitness with the Netherlands.
His strike against Spain was an exquisite one, and it should mean that he returns to Anfield full of confidence after the International break.
Gakpo’s return will be of huge benefit to Arne Slot, particularly given the poor form of the trio of Jota, Diaz and Nunez, with the 25-year-old able to slot straight in on the left or through the middle.
Liverpool are marching towards the Premier League title, and Gakpo’s contributions have played a big part over the course of this season.
