Andy Robertson reveals Kenny Dalglish warning away from Liverpool

Andy Robertson could soon eclipse a record held by Liverpool legend Kenny Dalglish.

The former Reds ace is Scotland’s record cap holder after featuring 102 times for the Tartan Army across his illustrious career.

Robertson has 80 caps for the nation, just 22 short of the 74-year-old’s tally with more international games in the calendar in the modern era.

However, Dalglish has sent him a warning about his attempt to break the record that has stood since 1986.

Liverpool legend Dalglish sends Robertson message

Liverpool star Robertson is the most experienced player in Steve Clarke’s squad.

He can take his tally to 82 if he features in the Nations League double header with Greece.

That would leave him just 20 behind Dalglish, but the 1983 Ballon d’Or runner-up has warned the 31-year-old that he may run out of time to break the record.

In an interview with BBC Sport (18 March), Robertson said: “I said it to Kenny Dalglish the other week, I said ‘I’m coming for you’.

“His reply was that plenty of players have said that to him before, and he is still the main man, in typical Kenny fashion.”

Robertson coming to the end at Liverpool

The current Scotland captain will go down in the history books at Anfield after winning numerous trophies after his £8.5million move from Hull in 2017.

He was a key part of Premier League and Champions League success under Jurgen Klopp, forming a formidable duo with Trent Alexander-Arnold on the flanks.

However, he is a shadow of his former self from both an attacking and defensive perspective, and the Reds will surely look to replace him when the summer transfer window opens.

Arne Slot’s side are leading the race for Bournemouth star Milos Kerkez, and his signature would surely bring Robertson’s time on Merseyside to an end.

His contract runs out in the summer of 2026, so he may well remain at Anfield until then, but he will surely be in a back-up role as an experienced member of the squad rather than a fully-fledged starter.

The former Celtic youth player has been a reliable servant down the left flank, and if he does depart, it will be an emotional moment for supporters given the efforts and successes of the Tartan Army star, but he could bow out with another Premier League title to his name.

Whatever happens in the future, he will go down as a legend for the L4 outfit, although not as highly as his Scottish counterpart, who is referred to as King Kenny in these parts.
