Liverpool told to ‘triple’ Alexander-Arnold offer from Real Madrid after new problem

Trent Alexander-Arnold was a big miss as Liverpool lost the Carabao Cup final to Newcastle.

The soon-to-be out-of-contract star was ruled out through an injury suffered in the Champions League clash with Paris Saint-Germain that saw the Reds exit European competition.

Arne Slot‘s side still had hopes of a domestic double but they were extinguished by a determined Magpies side as they were outclassed at Wembley, losing 2-1.

Liverpool have Alexander-Arnold problem

The lack of creativity when Alexander-Arnold is out of the side is a huge problem for Slot and it was telling against the Geordies.

The Reds struggled to put their stamp on the contest and had just seven shots compared to the 17 from the opposition.

The England star can open up defences with his ridiculous passing ability and create moments out of nothing but he was sorely missed on this occasion.

Alexander-Arnold leaving will be a disaster

That issue may become a permanent one soon, with the Three Lions star potentially leaving at the end of his contract in the summer with Real Madrid in pursuit of his signature.

Liverpool fans were not happy watching Jarell Quansah down the right, and immediately demanded action at Anfield following the defeat.

Finding a replacement for the homegrown ace who can replicate his ability on the ball will be arguably a bigger challenge than replacing Virgil van Dijk or Mohamed Salah, despite their obvious importance to Slot’s side.

The allure of Madrid is obvious, the level of fame and the chance to potentially be in the conversation for the Ballon d’Or and enhance his legacy to the wider football audience is a tempting one.

However, the Reds need to do all they can to convince Alexander-Arnold to stay as it is clear that he is the difference maker when they struggle to break teams down.

Speculation that he has agreed terms with Madrid continues to persist but no official agreement has been announced yet, so there is still time for the 26-year-old to agree on an Anfield stay.

Liverpool will miss his influence massively if he does leave and as gutting as it will be for supporters as he is a local lad, it will be worse in terms of the effect that it has on the pitch.
