Liverpool Women have ‘another Mo Salah’ after what Olivia Smith did v Man United

Olivia Smith has been a revelation since her summer move to Liverpool, so much so she is even now earning comparison to Mohamed Salah.

The Reds signed the Canadian from Sporting CP in July and she has emerged as a genuine superstar despite their struggles.

The 20-year-old has notched seven goals in 19 appearances in her debut season on Merseyside and her latest exploits may be the best yet.

Smith shines for Liverpool women v Manchester United

The Reds secured their first-ever win at Anfield with a 3-1 victory over Manchester United on Friday (14 March) as Smith notched a brace.

The first was a brilliant counter-attacking that finished with a superb run and finish from the young Canadian in the 42nd minute.

Then she secured the victory with the third goal as she dispatched a second-half penalty after Fuka Nagano had doubled the lead.

United scored a late consolation but it was a comfortable victory for the L4 outfit.

Mohamed Salah comparisons made after Smith exploits

After conquering the Red Devils and denting their title charge in the Women’s Super League, the former Sporting star has been compared to men’s first-team star Salah as both wear the number 11 and both have downed the Old Trafford outfit.

As one user on X stated, the women’s team “have their own Mo Salah”, while another added “Crazy how we have the two best numbers 11s in the country”.

The Reds may face a battle to keep Smith in the summer after a disappointing campaign so far which saw the legendary Matt Beard dismissed from his role as manager.

Top clubs may make approaches in the summer transfer window and with the lure of Champions League football, the Canada star might find it hard to resist an Anfield exit with the Merseysiders a long way from securing a European berth for themselves.

However, Amber Whiteley has turned around the club’s fortunes, recording three wins in a row since replacing Beard including progressing to the FA Cup semi-finals and if that continues, it may be enough to convince Smith to commit her future to Liverpool.

It remains to be seen whether the Reds can keep their upcoming star but one thing is for sure, she has a bright future in the Women’s game, whether that is on Merseyside or not, Red supporters face a tough wait to find out.
