Andy Carroll predicts Liverpool v Newcastle Carabao Cup final scoreline

Andy Carroll has predicted the winner as Liverpool face Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup final on Sunday.

Wembley will host Arne Slot’s team against the Magpies as the first major silverware of the season is up for grabs.

The Reds are coming off a disappointing defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League and were knocked out of the last-16 after losing on penalties.

Slot will undoubtedly be looking for the Merseyside outfit to bounce back, but that may not be the case if Carroll’s prediction is anything to go by.

Newcastle to beat Liverpool 2-1 in Carabao Cup final

Carroll believes Newcastle will beat the Reds 2-1 in the Carabao Cup final on 16 March.

The Bordeaux striker, who has played for the Tyneside outfit and the Merseysiders, will be rooting for Eddie Howe’s team at Wembley.

While Jurgen Klopp won the trophy last season, Carroll expects the Mapies to win their first major domestic trophy since 1955.

Speaking to Sky Sports Football on X (14 March), the Englishman said: “Me and my boys are wanting, and my dad’s coming with me, so we’re all wanting a win, but it’s going to be a tough one. If I’m going to go anything, I’m going to go 2-1 Newcastle.”

Slot to bring Carabao Cup to Anfield

Liverpool will be confident of beating Newcastle in the final despite the negativity after losing to PSG.

The Reds have been one of the best teams in the world this season, as they look set to win their 20th English top flight title.

Slot’s team are cruising in the Premier League, with second-place Arsenal 15 points behind them, and it would take a considerable collapse from the Merseyside outfit to lose the league from here.

The Anfield faithful didn’t have a lot of expectations from this season after barely spending any money in the summer transfer window.

Klopp’s departure also made it seem like the Reds would need some time to get to grips with their new manager before tasting success.

Slot has exceeded expectations in his debut season in England, and winning a domestic double will undoubtedly be considered an impressive feat.

While the Merseyside outfit’s supporters had hopes of going all the way in the Champions League and FA Cup, the Dutch manager will arguably have them competing for those titles again next season.

For now, the Reds will like their chances of beating Newcastle at Wembley.
