Jamie Carragher drops out of Sky appearance after Liverpool loss, Roy Keane reacts

Jamie Carragher and Liverpool supporters were left devastated by their side’s penalty shootout defeat to PSG in the last 16 of the Champions League.

The Ligue 1 leaders have progressed to the quarter-finals where they will face Aston Villa, while the Merseyside giants’ dream of lifting their seventh Champions League title will have to wait for at least another season.

Arne Slot’s side defeated PSG 1-0 in the first leg thanks to a world-class performance from goalkeeper Alisson, before Harvey Elliott nicked a late winner in Paris.

Liverpool hoped to get the better of Luis Enrique’s side once more at Anfield, but it wasn’t to be as Ousmane Dembele scored the only goal of the second leg, prompting extra time and eventually penalties.

PSG defeated the Reds 4-1 in the penalty shootout, making no mistakes from 12 yards, with both Darwin Nunez and Curtis Jones failing to convert for Slot’s men, seeing their attempts saved by Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Keane questioned the ex-defender’s whereabouts and asked: “Was [Carragher] at the game? Was he in the Kop? He didn’t fancy them to win it anyway.”

Rooney revealed that he had seen a photograph of Carragher in the famous Anfield Kop on Tuesday night when Liverpool lost to PSG, and that he had also seen him pitchside before the match.

League Cup final hands Liverpool an early opportunity to ease PSG pain

The Reds are clearly gutted about their premature exit from the Champions League, as they no longer have an opportunity to claim the biggest prize in European club football this term.

However, Slot’s men are still enjoying an incredible campaign under the stewardship of their new boss, and are all but certain to win the Premier League as they currently hold a 15-point cushion between themselves and second place Arsenal.

Meanwhile, Liverpool can claim their first silverware of the season this Sunday when they take on Newcastle at Wembley in the League Cup final.

If Liverpool defeat Newcastle under the iconic Wembley arch and claim their second consecutive League Cup trophy, it would help to ease the pain of Tuesday’s devastating penalty shootout defeat to PSG.

Slot and Co. may find Sunday’s final more difficult without the presence of right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold, who is set to miss the clash after picking up an injury in the Champions League.

However, Liverpool should still be confident of beating a Newcastle side who will also be without the services of one of their star men, Anthony Gordon.
