Gary Lineker wowed after what he saw about possible new Liverpool transfer

Bournemouth defender Milos Kerkez has been continually linked with a move to Liverpool this summer already.

He showed his quality yet again on Sunday, when he delivered a top drawer cross for Marcus Tavernier to open the scoring during Bournemouth’s 2-2 draw at Tottenham.

It is no surprise that the Reds have cast their eyes on Kerkez, who has scored two goals as well as creating five assists in the Premier League this term.

His efforts have helped put the Cherries in contention for a European spot, while they were only promoted back to the Premier League in 2022.

Kerkez’s assist against Spurs certainly caught the eye of Match of the Day host, Gary Lineker, who said on the latest episode of The Rest is Football [10 March]: “The run and the ball from Kerkez as well.

“He’s really good. I think they might struggle to keep him at Bournemouth.

“I saw the links with Liverpool and that makes sense. It makes sense.”

Kerkez could be a fantastic long-term addition for Liverpool

Kerkez is one of two talented left-backs Liverpool have cast their eyes on ahead of the summer transfer window, with the Reds also linked with a move for Fulham ace Antonee Robinson.

The addition of either Kerkez or Robinson may spell the end of the road for Konstantinos Tsimikas and his time at Anfield, while the Bournemouth man presents as a fantastic potential acquisition.

The Hungary international has already proven himself as one of the best left-backs in the Premier League this term, while at just 21 years old, he still boasts bags of potential.

Liverpool’s current first-choice left-back Andy Robertson is enjoying yet another top-class season, and has been a major reason as to why the Reds are closing in on the Premier League title with a 15-point cushion between themselves and second-place Arsenal.

But the Scotland international turns 32 next season, so perhaps it is time for Arne Slot to acquire a new left-back for the long-term, which is where Kerkez can come into play.

Kerkez is defensively astute as well as dangerous in attacking areas and could be capable of challenging Robertson for a place in Liverpool’s starting 11 next term and would be an upgrade on Tsimikas.
