Endo makes ‘amazing’ Arne Slot admission after what’s happened at Liverpool

Wataru Endo has emerged as a key figure in Liverpool’s treble bid this season.

The Japan international made 44 appearances last season under Jurgen Klopp, with 34 starts but had seen his role heavily reduced once Arne Slot replaced the German last summer.

There were concerns that the 32-year-old would struggle to adapt to the Dutchman’s style of football but it seems that Slot is finally beginning to trust the former Stuttgart man as the campaign grinds to a conclusion.

The 67-cap international has been brought on in five of the Reds’ last six matches to help see out the lead.

Endo opens up on Slot struggles at Liverpool

Endo has revealed that Slot has told him that he appreciates the work that he has done for the team despite his limited game time.

Speaking on the Wataru Endo podcast (10 March), he said: “Recently, he told me what I have done this season was really amazing and really helpful for the team.

“Even though I don’t have the chance to play a lot, you know, when I play on the pitch I always try to give 100 per cent to help the team.

“My manager’s very thankful for that.”

Liverpool need Endo for treble glory

If the Reds are to complete a historic treble in Slot’s first season on English shores, they need to utilise Endo in the latter stages of matches.

The Japanese midfielder is a vital asset for securing results from close games, such as the 1-0 Champions League win over PSG (5 March) and has become a cult hero among the Anfield faithful as a result.

Ryan Gravenberch has been in sensational form this season in the number six role but the Dutch international cannot play every minute of every match and has looked tired on several occasions lately.

Endo’s work rate, discipline, and energy can benefit the Reds if they decide to rest the former Bayern Munich ace, or if they need to defend a tight lead in the closing stages.

Slot needs to put his faith in the veteran, as he gives his all when he features and has shown in limited cameos that he is still capable of helping the side to achieve the desired outcome.

Eyebrows were raised when the Anfield outfit turned their attentions to the £16million man when they missed out on Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia but if he helps the Merseysiders to the treble, it will look like a masterstroke.
