Arne Slot ‘subject to bizarre jibe’ before West Ham v Newcastle

Arne Slot has not gotten a lot wrong since he was appointed at Liverpool last summer.

The Dutchman has the Reds in pole position for the Premier League title with nine matches left to play and could add two more trophies.

The Anfield outfit will face Newcastle in the Carabao Cup final (16 March) and are one of the favourites for the Champions League.

However, Slot has seemingly rubbed one journalist the wrong way with his actions on Merseyside.

Liverpool boss subject to random ridicule

Telegraph journalist Matt Law took to X before the clash between West Ham and Newcastle at the London Stadium (10 March) to share an image of the pre-match fireworks.

Alongside the image was the caption, which said: “Lovely tribute to Liverpool and Arne Slot at West Ham tonight.”

The best guess is that it’s some kind of bizarre dig at comments the Dutchman made after the 2-2 draw with Aston Villa (19 February) where Slot insinuated that teams bring out the fireworks and are more up for the game when his side comes to town.

Slot set for ridiculous first season at Liverpool

Slot is on the verge of a historic first season at Anfield after replacing Jurgen Klopp, with the Reds potentially on for a treble.

It would arguably be the greatest achievement in a manager’s first season of all time if his side can manage to pull it off.

Slot just needs to keep his team composed and not listen to outside noise about his or their actions, whether that is on or off the pitch.

He must ensure that his players are taking it on a game-by-game basis and not looking too far ahead, otherwise their season could take a negative turn and end up with just one trophy rather than three.

Immediate focus must be on maintaining their first-leg advantage in the Champions League clash with Paris Saint-Germain (11 March) before it switches to the Wembley final with the Magpies on Sunday in which Slot could win the first trophy of his Anfield stint.

If the Reds can secure victory in both matches, it will put down a marker for their rivals and prove that they have the potential to go all the way in all competitions.
